‘A CHORAL SONG’ - COMENIUS PROGRAMME 2012 – 2014

‘A CHORAL SONG’ -  COMENIUS PROGRAMME 2012 – 2014

‘A Choral Song’ is a European Comenius Programme which we at the 6th Junior High School of Mytilene are proud to be part of. The programme will run for two years and uses the common theme of songs to examine various issues. The topics to be covered during the first year are Tolerance, Friendship and the Environment.
Students involved in the programme will be working on songs in French, English and Greek with a view to analysing the message of the songs and developing ideas encountered. The aim of the programme is to get children (and adults!) actively thinking about these various issues as well as encouraging them to learn to take the initiative and to exchange views with children from the other European countries participating in the programme.
Believe me, this means a lot of hard work but the benefits to all involved are numerous. In the present economic climate, when children are wondering why to bother with education when the chances of getting a decent job are so slim, it is of vital importance to teach them how to think for themselves and how to be versatile in their approach to life and its challenges. Here at the 6th Junior High School we aim to promote such values, which cannot be undermined by any circumstances, in order to give our students the best possible start in life.
We have already hosted the preliminary meeting of teachers from the nine countries taking part in the programme and our students will, over the two years of the programme, be engaging in visits to four of the countries involved (Slovakia, Portugal, Romania and Spain) in an effort to get to know other cultures and to work with children of different nationalities. In addition, they are participating in joint projects with children from all the countries via the Internet.
We will constantly be adding to this blog with samples of our work so please feel free to have a look. Thank you for your support.
